combination of the preposition à with definite articles

The preposition à has combinations with definite articles such le,l' and les! However, these are different formulas that are used in the french language in order to complete a sentence!


1. à + le = au

2. à + les= aux

3. à + la = à la

4. à + l' = à l'


Example I. Using (au) in a sentence

Vous jouez au tennis. You play tennis



Example II. Using (aux) in a sentence

Je parle aux professeurs I speak to the professers.



Example III. Using (à la) in a sentence

Ils arrivent à la zoologie! They arrive to the zoologie.


Example IV. Using (à l') in a sentence

Nous parlons à l'écrivain. We speak to the writer.
